Earth at Risk: The Justice and Sustainability conference

Earth at Risk is a conference series that is the brainchild of two people who have dedicated their lives to defending the planet: Randall Wallace and Derrick Jensen. The first conference was held in 2010 in the San Francisco bay area.

The goal of the conference is
to build alliances among grassroots activists, serve as a platform for radical analysis, and to articulate strategies for success.

EARTH AT RISK 2014

In November 2014, some of the world’s preeminent strategists in environmental defense, social justice, and grassroots activism came together to stoke our revolutionary passion, share their insights, and speak toward one goal: crafting game-changing responses to address the converging crises we face.

Speakers included Alice Walker, Vandana Shiva, Chief Caleen Sisk, Jeannette Armstrong, Chris Hedges, Freda Huson, Dini ze Toghestiy, Dominique Christina, Vince Emanuele, Dahr Jamail, Diane Wilson, Sakej Ward, Richard Manning, Cherry Smiley, Anne Keala Kelly, Sarah Mah, Thomas Linzey, Guy McPherson, Gail Dines, Kourtney Mitchel, Saba Malik, Charles Derber, Yuly Chan, Doug Zachary, and Derrick Jensen.

Earth at Risk is the brainchild of two people who have dedicated their lives to defending the planet: Randall Wallace and Derrick Jensen.

With their help, the first Earth at Risk conference was held in 2010 at San Francisco State University. This small event featured feminist academic Jane Caputi, population and overshoot expert William Catton, anti-pornography feminist Gail Dines, writer and activist Lierre Keith, legal disobedience lawyer Thomas Linzey, oil spill specialist Riki Ott, and indigenous revolutionary Waziyatawin.

The second Earth at Risk, the following year, took place in Berkeley and featured Arundhati Roy, Stephanie McMillan, and Aric McBay.

Earth at Risk 2010 was filmed and the recordings are available for free on our YouTube channel. The 2011 event was also filmed and the recording is available from our friends at PM Press. The event was also made into a book. See the below YouTube video for a promo of that content!
Special thanks to Randall and Janet Wallace and to the Wallace Global Fund for their support of Earth at Risk over the years!
Species extinction, racism, sexual warfare, deforestation, global warming, corruption -- all stem from the same root.

For too long, environmentalism has hinged on conformity to capitalism and the status quo. For too long social justice work has capitulated to this profoundly abusive culture.

We may live on an EARTH AT RISK - but with this great challenge comes a GREAT OPPORTUNITY. This is your struggle, whether you acknowledge it or not. Will you sit on the sidelines as the world burns?
